The moment we’ve all been waiting for has finally arrived: Donald Trump’s mugshot has been released to the world.
With a furrowed brow and scowl, the former president posed for his mugshot at Fulton County sheriff’s office in Georgia in his trademark navy suit and red tie on Thursday evening.
Trump was booked by the sheriff’s office in Atlanta after announcing his intention to surrender, following his indictment for allegedly attempting to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. At the jail, Trump was formally arrested and will have had to have his fingerprints taken and his height and weight measured. He was released ahead of the trial in October after paying $200,000 in bail.
With this photo, Trump has become the first former US president to have a mugshot taken and released to the public. According to sources close to the 45th president, he chose to scowl in his booking photo because he wanted to appear “defiant.”
Never one to let an opportunity slide, not long after the mugshot was released, Trump posted it to X, formerly known as Twitter, alongside a link to his presidential campaign for 2024. This was the former president’s first post to the social media platform after being allowed back onto it by Elon Musk last fall. The last time Trump had posted was two days after the January 6 attempted insurrection in 2021. Trump’s campaign team has also already started selling T-shirts with the mugshot on the front alongside the phrase “NEVER SURRENDER!” — catchy!
With the Georgia trial date set for October 23, just under two months remain until Trump will be summoned back to Fulton County. Cockburn has a feeling we will be seeing plenty more of this mugshot before then…
