Are you, like many others, alarmed that America is sliding into chaos and civil unrest? That society is being torn apart? Are you disturbed because you had never really thought that America is the most evil, racist place on earth, but now everyone is telling you that it is? Well, hang your head in shame, obviously. But also don’t worry. It’s all going to be OK, because actors are taking responsibility. Thank goodness.
There’s been no shortage of epically cringe-inducing noble and viral celebrity statements made in support of Black Lives Matter in recent days. But Julianne Moore and co have surely won the shared Oscar for most hellacious virtue-signaling stunt bravest stand of 2020 so far. See for yourself:
The itakeresponsibility.org video, which is causing emetic spasms an outpouring of emotion across social media as we write, has a star studded cast, including Sarah Paulson, Aaron Paul, Kristen Bell, Justin Theroux, Debra Messing, Mark Duplass, Bryce Dallas Howard, Piper Perabo, Stanley Tucci, Ilana Glazer, and Aly Raisman. With this much star-power in support, maybe justice will prevail.
Cockburn can’t recall the last time he saw such contrived good acting. It’s hard to pick a favorite, but the special prize for greatest effort goes to Aaron Paul, of Breaking Bad fame. The way he turns on the righteous rage as he says that ‘killer cops must be prosecuted, they are murderers, we can turn the tide…call out hate, step up, and take action’ — chef’s kiss, sublime! It made Cockburn cry laughing weep, at any rate.
‘Going for a job should not be a death sentence,’ the actors intone, as a solemn piano plinks away gravely in the background. ‘Sleeping in your own home should not be a death sentence. Playing video games with your nephew should not be a death sentence. Shopping in a store should not be a death sentence. Business as usual should not be life-threatening. I stand against hate.’ And so on.

We must all be grateful to these very rich, very famous people for making this bold and controversial statement against racism. Who else, after all, will stand up to the very powerful and well-funded shopping-in a-store-absolutely-should-be-a-death-sentence lobby?
It’s also good to see that the acting community has recovered from Ricky Gervais’s cruel attack on their noble efforts to heal humanity at the Golden Globes earlier this year. Nothing and nobody can stop luvvies from using their position to lecture educate others. Because if actors don’t save the world, who will?
