The show’s token conservative firebrand, Meghan McCain, announced Thursday she would depart as a co-host at the end of the season. Cable junkies will remember McCain for her combative commentary and entertaining rows with her post-menopause colleagues.

John McCain’s foul-mouthed blonde scion is leaving ABC’s housewife daytime program, The View.

The show’s token conservative firebrand, Meghan McCain, announced Thursday she would depart as a co-host at the end of the season. Cable junkies will remember McCain for her combative commentary and entertaining rows with her post-menopause colleagues.

‘I’m just going to rip the bandaid off,’ McCain declared. ‘I am here to tell all of you, my wonderful cohorts and viewers at home: this is going to be my last season here at The View.’

After four years of service, McCain revealed it was not easy to leave the show and exchanged bland girl-power pleasantries with her coworkers. ‘If five men were doing what we do every day, I believe we would have a Pulitzer prize at this point, and it’s always reduced to, you know, really reductive coverage, and I implore the media to do better as they cover the rest of you going forward,’ she said.

A jubilant Whoopi Goldberg said it had been ‘wonderful’ to work with her and added her father would be proud. Joy Behar, with whom McCain battled on and off the program, ended the segment by telling her she was a ‘formidable opponent’ and ‘no snowflake’. It’s refreshing to watch fake niceties be exchanged even for a brief moment. So much of modern television programming lacks the shallow compliments of the golden years.

McCain is married to Fox News heavyweight Ben Domenech, the publisher of the right-wing website the Federalist. The two plan on spending time together in DC raising their daughter, Liberty. Cockburn wishes the couple all the best at starting their family in the healthy environment known as the Beltway.

The real victims of McCain’s retirement are the comedians who have built their careers on the back of her stupidity for years. One of Tim Dillon’s early career successes was parodying McCain as an incestuous, chain-smoking TV diva in a blonde wig with raunchy chest hair. To think we may never see art like this ever again is deeply depressing.

Au revoir Meghan: may you find another outlet for your bloodline’s lust for conflict, verbal or otherwise.
