Although he has been a harsh critic in the past, Cockburn would like to thank fashion icon and hair-game legend Kamala Harris for teaching him the key to achieving the perfect silk press. While Cockburn must admit he wasn’t familiar with the hairstyling technique, he doesn’t know how he lived without it for so long. To quote People magazine, it had him screaming “queen.”
The vice president shared her beauty secrets on an episode of Keke Palmer’s podcast Baby, This Is Keke Palmer on Tuesday. The two women spent most of the interview tackling America’s maternal healthcare crisis before turning to fun girl-talk which included Harris’s hair care routine.
Palmer wanted to know how many times a month the vice president gets a silk press — a process of straightening curly hair with a flattening iron — but the actress was not prepared for the life-changing answer she received and neither was Cockburn.
“So you know, I don’t use a curling iron. It’s too much heat. I use a round brush,” Harris revealed to a shocked Palmer. “Your hair must be super fine, Madame VP,” Palmer responded. It turns out that Harris merely spends “a while” brushing her hair — much like she is willing to spend time in hip interviews with millennial celebrities.
People’s write-up of their chat is particularly excruciating: “On Inauguration Day, Vice President Harris showed the American public how important style and image would be in her term. Decked out in a Christopher John Rogers royal purple ensemble, Harris blazed in her power for all to see. Later in the night, the first woman Vice President Harris would return in a blinged-out Sergio Hudson dress.”
Palmer also praised Harris for her professional fashion style, by which Cockburn assumes she was referring to the monochromatic pantsuits Harris wears like every other female politician. The vice president is also known to wear Converse, however, and Palmer asked if she would be launching her own line with the sneaker brand anytime soon.
“If I did, I would probably want a freedom line. Can you see that?” Harris asked. “Freedom would be on the Converse. Freedom to be. I am free. Freedom march. Free to walk my talk.” Is Kamala sure she doesn’t mean “Fweedom?”
