Cockburn has a few vacations coming up in 2023, so is on the hunt for some new light reading material. Thank God that Prince Harry has announced that his long-awaited memoir, Spare, will hit shelves globally on January 10.

The cover features a close-up of the man fifth in line to the British throne, staring down the barrel of the camera, blue eyes glinting, beard tidily trimmed. His expression says, “this is my story.”

Publisher Penguin Random House said in a press release: “Spare takes readers immediately back to one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow — and horror.

“As Diana, Princess of Wales, was laid to rest, billions wondered what the princes must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on. For Harry, this is his story at last. With its raw, unflinching honesty, Spare is a landmark publication full of insight, revelation, self-examination, and hard-won wisdom about the eternal power of love over grief.”

The 410-page book, which is available for pre-order, will cost the princely sum of $36. Cockburn guesses Harry needs to ensure the book’s success financially as it’s practically guaranteed the rest of his family will never speak to him again after its release.

Some on Twitter are less than pleased about the news. British journalist Piers Morgan tweeted: “Do you care about the massive global damage this book will cause to our new King before he is even coronated, and while he still grieves for his mother?”

For any people worried that the Duke of Sussex hadn’t actually read the book — after it emerged that he was working with the ghostwriter J.R. Moehringer — the audiobook will be recorded by Harry himself, giving him an opportunity to find out what’s inside.

Spare is an interesting title. Spare to the throne, spare me the details…
