Donald Trump is set to publish a letter from then-Prince Charles, without the British monarch’s permission.
The letter from the now-King will form part of a book coming out Tuesday called Letters to Trump, which features celebrities and other people who have written to the former president during his life. The correspondence is said to range from President Richard Nixon to Alec Baldwin. Perhaps they bonded over lawsuits?
Charles purportedly wrote to Trump in 1995 to thank him for offering an honorary membership to his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. A nice gesture, but King Charles isn’t a golfer. Maybe it’s something to do with those hands.
In the letter, Charles wishes Trump success with the new resort and country club and said he was interested in visiting, according to the Daily Telegraph. He also reportedly invited Trump to visit his Institute of Architecture in London.
Trump being the braggart he is, it won’t surprise you to hear that he also published a letter from 1997 from Diana, just weeks before her death. She was sending him gratitude for giving her flowers on her birthday.
“They truly are quite magnificent, and I am deeply touched that you have thought of me in this special way,” she wrote on July 3, 1997.
While it may seem like an invasion of privacy, these royals are used to it. Cockburn knows a writer that once traded a letter from Princess Diana for a double vodka and coke.
Trump is not a noted man of letters: his most famous book, The Art of the Deal, was penned almost entirely by a ghostwriter. And during his time as president, he rarely if ever bothered to read his intelligence briefings.
