Uh oh. Less than twenty-four hours after Peter Mandelson was appointed the next UK ambassador to Washington, Donald Trump’s team are kicking up a fuss. Now Chris LaCivita has blasted the new ambassador and Sir Keir Starmer’s Labour government for the decision on X.
Writing on the social media platform, LaCivita — who is a political strategist for the Republican Party and co-ran the 2024 Trump campaign with Susie Wiles — fumed that Lord Mandelson should “stay home,” adding: “Replace a professional universally respected [ambassador] with an absolute moron.” Ouch.
Lord Mandelson will take over the top job from Karen Pierce — but his previous comments about the current president-elect may age badly. Cockburn would remind readers that the Labour peer once described Donald Trump as a “danger to the world” and “little short of a white nationalist and racist.” And the rest of the Labour lot haven’t made things easy either, what with foreign secretary David Lammy previously calling Trump a “neo-Nazi sympathizer.” Talk about getting off to a bad start, eh?
