Want to see RNC chair Lara Trump’s new music video?

What, you thought she’d be campaigning or something?

The video begins with sirens, a firetruck and vivid kinetic typography spelling the words “hero.” Then, soulful piano music. Sigh. Cockburn really didn’t want to cry this afternoon.

RNC co-chair Lara Trump, daughter-in-law to former president Donald Trump, released an official music video last month with Madeline Jaymes. The song is about first responders, but Lara and Madeline “poured [their] hearts into this song, hoping to show the world that all heroes, big and small, deserve recognition in today’s world,” per Madeline’s Instagram post. Heroes, perhaps, like Donald Trump? This is very unclear.

Heroes, perhaps, like Donald Trump? This is very unclear.

“My number one goal is making sure that Donald Trump is the 47th president,” said Lara Trump in an Associated Press interview a few months ago. Cockburn doubts — sincerely doubts — that standing on a fire escape in an evening gown singing about firefighters is the way to make that happen. But as Lara assures us in the song “this can’t be for likes.” She must have been referring to the work of firemen, not her own work… Cockburn can’t keep track. Lara assured her “YUGE fans in the liberal media” that this single was “more proof of [her] unique and creative winter.”

Lara told TIME after being picked by Donald Trump for RNC co-chair that she didn’t want to “be a name or a face,” she just wanted “to do shit.” This is from the same girl who said her most traumatic childhood memory was not making the JV cheerleading team.

If the YouTube comments are any indication, the music video does not even have merit of its own. No one seems to think poor Lara has a “noteworthy” voice. “Lara Trump is one of the few singers out there that can hit the brown note,” one comment reads. “Wow there really is no beginning to her talents…” another wrote. “All I hear is autotune,” and finally “As a Democrat, I fully endorse spending GOP campaign funds on LT’s ‘music’ career!”

All jokes aside, why exactly is the RNC co-chair messing around with pet projects two months before Election Day? After Kamala Harris replaced President Joe Biden as Democratic presidential nominee, the Republican Party surely can’t afford to mess around. With legal fees and lack of funds for Trump and the GOP, the Republican nominee might be wondering what “shit” his daughter-in-law is doing?
