Elon Musk has often commented that “if Trump is NOT elected, this will be the last election.” He often adds that, “far from being a threat to democracy, he is the only way to save it.”
I believe both statements are essentially true. I say “essentially” because, should Trump lose — or to follow Musk more accurately, should he not be elected, which is not quite the same thing as losing — then there would still be events called elections. Only they wouldn’t be like elections of yore.
According to the Constitution (another thing that would retired should Trump fail to be elected), the qualifications to be president of the United States are pretty minimal. Quoth the relevant bit of Article II of that venerable document: “No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.”
What the Constitution does not say, but what has been the actual practice of America in recent decades, is that a candidate for president must also be acceptable to the Syndicate that actually runs the country. The fate of Donald Trump illustrates how this process of triage works.
At least since 2015, it has been clear to the Syndicate that Donald Trump represented an existential threat to its survival in power. At first, they ignored him because, though they could see he was dangerous to their interests, they did not believe he could win.
Everyone knows what happened when the impossible became the inevitable and Trump did win: protests, FBI investigations, impeachments, indictments, indictments, indictments. Also a few sniper’s bullets for good measure. And let’s not forget the surreal, round-the-clock calumny (not to say “disinformation”) from the press and rival politicians: “fascist,” “literally Hitler,” “a clear and present danger to the country,” et cetera, et cetera. Day in and day out, twice on Sunday.
Elon Musk’s main point was that the Dems’ weaponization of illegal immigration was transforming the fabric of the country — and absent the abrupt reversal of policy promised by Trump everywhere in America would be “like downtown San Francisco,” a lawless hellhole.
I believe that Trump will win on November 5 (or 6 or 7: whenever the Dems are forced to stop counting). But if he doesn’t, no one like Trump will ever be allowed to run, let alone win, again.
Cast your mind back to the 2020 election. Fewer than 50,000 votes in a handful of counties cost Trump the election. Biden won Georgia, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Nevada and Arizona by the slimmest of majorities. Working for Biden was Covid-19. Remember that the vaccine that Trump had developed in record time was announced only after the election. All the changes in voting rules, many of which were illegally promulgated, benefitted Biden. Covid also had the covert advantage of keeping Biden in his basement, away from voter scrutiny. Then there were the then-novel practices of early voting, ballot harvesting, “Zuck bucks” and kindred Democrat initiatives.
As for Trump, his campaign in 2020 was shambolic. Let us draw a veil.
Things have been entirely different in 2024. Trump has run a nearly flawless — and indefatigable — campaign. Yesterday he held three rallies. Today he will hold four. Although outspent three to one by Harris, Trump has expertly capitalized on every Democratic misstep, of which there have been many. (Just ponder the words “McDonald’s,” “pheasant hunting” and “garbage” to get started.) Moreover, the GOP ground game has been superb. Republicans mobilized the troops to vote early, especially in battle ground states. J.D. Vance, Trump’s pick for VP, has turned out to be a masterly and charismatic debater. The surprising support of of RFK Jr. for Trump has opened up a whole new demographic of Trump voters, as has the support of Elon Musk, whose on-the-scene campaigning in places like Pennsylvania has been important. And let’s not forget the resource that was Twitter. Rebaptized “X” by Musk, the social media platform was all-in for Biden in 2020. Now it is open to all legitimate points of view.
Trump has made huge inroads not only battleground states but also in blue and purple states as various as New Mexico, Minnesota, Virginia and New Hampshire, all of which have been declared “in play.”
Finally, Trump is facing a person who might well be the worst candidate in history. Until the moment of her coronation in late July, she was widely acknowledged to be one of the least popular, and most left-leaning, politicians in the country. In her astonishing inarticulateness, she makes Biden look like Cicero. Harris is wholly a fabrication of the Syndicate, kept aloft by the loving, but lying, ministrations of the media.
The great Cleta Mitchell, who has done as much as anyone to clean up voter rolls and bolster election integrity, made this observation on X this morning:
Today is Nov. 4. Four years ago today, the Election Integrity movement was born. Millions of Americans woke up following the Nov 3 election and said “WTF?” And after watching all the unanswered questions, there arose a massive volunteer effort to reclaim our elections. And much has been done since that day all across America. Tens of thousands of volunteer hours have been spent learning state election laws, lobbying for changes, studying and cleaning the mess of the voter rolls—or trying to—studying the election technology, becoming poll observers, workers and officials, fighting the leftwing groups occupying the election offices in state after state, standing up against noncitizens voting in our elections — all the while being attacked, insulted, pilloried, harassed, and mistreated by the leftist media—the sworn enemy of honest, lawful elections.
My point is this: if we, Team MAGA, do not win this time, we will never win. That party will be over (and Trump will promptly be bankrupted and jailed). This election is not just about selecting a president. It is also about deciding whether or not we still have a country. We will know in a few days.
