In his 2015 State of the Union speech, President Barack Obama praised American innovation and name-checked Tesla. “There are also millions of Americans who work in jobs that didn’t even exist 10 or 20 years ago. Jobs at companies like Google, and eBay and Tesla,” he said. “So no one knows for certain which industries will generate the jobs of the future. But we do know we want them here in America.”
Well the future is here, ten years later, and those innovative electric vehicles are being vandalized, their drivers accosted, and there are even domestic terror attacks on dealerships, with several reports of mass arson, threats and damage at several dealerships across the country. Acts of violence have now been accompanied by scant protests in blue states like Washington, California and Colorado, places littered with aging boomer libs who made it their life’s political cause to lecture everyone within earshot about saving the Earth’s climate.
Blue states implement “planet-saving” measures like mandating those same EVs, plastic bag and straw bans and doing away with gas stoves in commercial buildings, like in New York where many of these same acts of vandalism and crimes against Tesla vehicles and owners are occurring.
The reason they have apparently decided the world is no longer worth saving is because the creator of Tesla is Elon Musk, who has lent his services as a special government employee to the Trump administration in an attempt to root out spending fraud and waste. He has employed a team of tech entrepreneurs from successful gig companies like Airbnb, as well as engineers from SpaceX and Tesla itself.
The political left, national media and the Democratic Party have made Elon Musk their cause de jour and abandoned their very principled stance on saving the planet through the reduction of carbon emissions. An audit of former president Joe Biden’s Build Back Better agenda, which included the Inflation Reduction Act, which they later admitted was really a climate bill, found that only seven federally funded EV charging stations have been made operable over the course of the past two years. That pales in comparison to the 60,000 or so Tesla has built privately, on roadside gas stations, at shopping malls and in downtown districts.
By all appearances, no business owners have done more on their part to adhere to the left’s climate obsession than Elon Musk. And they hate him for it. Just recently, Arizona senator Mark Kelly took to Twitter/X and TikTok to announce he was trading in his Tesla due to Musk’s personal politics. Later that day, reporters discovered him pulling up to the Capitol parking lot in a brand-new, gas-guzzling Chevy Tahoe. You can feel the emissions of his own personal hypocrisy from outer space.
Another famous Tesla owner in Congress has her eyes on the White House. Hipster congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez – who is alleged to have illegally parked her Tesla outside a DC Whole Foods – is champion and co-sponsor of the Green New Deal. She is also sympathetic to EV mandates. How is she going to explain her activist base’s sudden turn against the only real EVs people want to buy?
And what of Greta Thunberg, the Swedish teenager who captured the hearts of the global climate elite with her scolding speeches and theatrical arrests? Greta seems to have abandoned the climate cause recently for something much closer to her heart – donning a keffiyeh and preaching solidarity with Palestine after Hamas’s massacre of Jews in Southern Israel on October 7.
Perhaps it was all performative all along. Perhaps they really have leaned into the doomsday cult cliché their critics have all accused them of being. Or maybe they truly believe the planet is no longer worth saving. Either way, they have set all of their climate credibility on fire.
