Met Gala turns @TheDemocrats into @PopCrave
Celebrities from the music industry, the NFL and Hollywood joined Kamala Harris at the annual Met Gala fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute.
In an embarrassing tweet emulating viral celebrity accounts such as @PopCrave, @TheDemocrats (yes, the official social media account for the entire Democratic party) wrote, “Kamala Harris stuns at the Met Gala.” The defeated presidential candidate wore a black and white dress in a possible homage to Cruella de Vil.
Despite the online slavering at DNC HQ, Emily Smith notes elsewhere in The Spectator that Harris’s audience might have been on the other coast. “It was proof that, whereas the presidency was a shot too far, she’d make a great governor of the state of California – the promised land for limousine liberals and former Met Gala guests,” Smith writes.
Harris’s fit wasn’t alone in catching the eye. Pop star Sabrina Carpenter opted for a burgundy Louis Vuitton bodysuit and no pants. “Hillary CLINTON 💜,” tweeted one New York councilman, leaning into the conspiracy theory that Carpenter is in fact The Substance version of the former first lady. Cockburn admits, the similarities are uncanny.
There was one notable absence from the Gala: LeBron James publicly lamented that an injury kept him from making his Met debut. It’s almost certain that Michael Jordan wouldn’t have let a knee injury keep him from attending…
Canada ‘not for sale,’ Carney tells Trump
President Trump had a somewhat testy bilateral meeting with new Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney at lunchtime. After Trump spent months making overtures about how Canada should become the 51st state, Carney stressed in the Oval Office that his country is “not for sale.”
The PM’s response came after Trump had described how arbitrary he felt the border between the US and Canada was and said, “we’re not going to be discussing that unless someone wants to discuss it.”
President Trump also referred to the future relationship between the US and its northern neighbor as a “marriage.”

Fetterman down?
A number of Senator John Fetterman’s former staff apparently hate him. Others are concerned about his physical and mental health. His former allies in the media have turned on him. His small-dollar donors want their money back.
So what is happening with the Pennsylvania giant? Late last week, Fetterman’s former top aides told all to New York magazine – and some of Fetterman’s former fiercest critics in the GOP quickly defended him.
At issue is Fetterman’s recovery from a 2022 stroke – he says he’s fine, but his former staffers and current colleagues beg to differ. Even Fetterman’s wife Gisele was reported to have said on speaker phone last year “Who did I marry? Where is the man I married?”
Fetterman’s response to the bombshell piece has been to pull a page out of the Trump playbook. “It’s a one source story with a couple of anonymous sources, a hit piece from a very left publication, there’s really nothing more to say about that,” he told NBC News today, sounding as articulate as he ever has.
Back in 2023, multiple Senate staff told Cockburn they had spotted Fetterman taking “quiet times” as he posted up at “a solitary post in the Russell Senate Office Building’s courtyard.”
Earlier this year, Fetterman insisted that a party switch is “not going to happen,” but if his former staff continue leaking details about his marriage and medication to reporters eager for gossip, he may have one final middle finger to the Democratic party.
