Now we got bad blood? Billion-dollar pop star Taylor Swift almost had a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. Cockburn pulled out his binoculars at the Chiefs game Thursday and did not see Britanny Mahomes anywhere near Swift, as she usually is. Both Taylor and Mahomes appeared to be in entirely different suites. Why the distance? From what Cockburn can tell, it might have something to do with the fact that Mahomes has associated herself with the MAGA world.
For the uninitiated, Taylor Swift is dating Travis Kelce, tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs. Brittany Mahomes is the wife of Patrick Mahomes, quarterback for the Chiefs. Last season, Swift and Mahomes were almost always seen together in the same suite, cheering on their significant others. The NFL season began Thursday, with the Kansas City Chiefs beating the Baltimore Ravens 27-20. As Swift is notoriously left-leaning — she reached a turning point in her career years ago where she decided to be extremely vocal about the Tennessee US Senate race — it would not be surprising if she purposely distanced herself from a Trump supporter.
However, when Cockburn looked into it, Brittany’s “endorsement” of Trump was barely newsworthy. Cockburn’s nieces were able to track down the Instagram moment that marked the beginning of the controversy — Mahomes liked a singular post, outlining Trump’s platform (which she eventually unliked). “To be a hater as an adult, you have to have some deep rooted issues you refuse to heal from childhood. There’s no reason your brain is fully developed and you hate to see others doing well,” Mahomes wrote in a story, after receiving hate from her followers. She also supposedly liked a comment on one of her posts: “TRUMP-VANCE 2024.”
Trump’s Truth Social post about Mahomes sealed the deal. “I want to thank beautiful Brittany Mahomes for so strongly defending me,” Trump posted a few days ago.
Mahomes, at least according to Trump, is now a “strong defender” of the MAGA movement and wants to save “this country from DOOM.” Swift, on the other hand, believes Trump is “stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism” and endorsed the Biden-Harris ticket in 2020.
Cockburn would like to believe Swift and Mahomes had a secret meeting to celebrate the one thing they completely agree on — the Chiefs winning. But he doubts Swift would continue associating with a supposed supporter of “white supremacy.”
