Why did Nathan Wade agree to this Daily Show interview, also?

Cockburn was left scratching his head last week after former Donald Trump prosecutor Nathan Wade’s disaster sit down with reporter Kaitlan Collins. Not having learned his lesson, Wade decided to double down and appeared on The Daily Show on Wednesday for a racy interview that highlighted the dazzling prudence of the Fulton County courthouse. 

Comedian Marlon Wayans, who plays the Daily Show character ’Quon, grilled Wade on his affair with Georgia district attorney Fani Willis, even mimicking several sex positions. After his media team interrupted the CNN interview to dodge a question about his affair, it’s almost inexplicable that Wade would place himself in such a raunchy situation — except that he’s clearly enjoying his five minutes of fame. 

Wade, who divorced his wife the day after he was hired by the district attorney, began the interview by pushing back against the term “affair” to describe his relationship with Willis. “DA Willis is a respectable mother, a brilliant legal mind,” Wade explained as if Willis’s motherhood made their romance less scandalous. “We spent countless hours preparing this case, investigating this case.”

The response, of course, led Wayans to conclude that the romance developed as a late-night office romp. “She liked it in you or you liked it in her,” Wayans asked. 

“Well that’s a great question,” Wade responded, prepping Cockburn for some salacious details. Unfortunately, Wade was as undescriptive and humorless as ever, only re-emphasizing that the pair spent full days together, both weekdays and weekends, leading up to the case. When asked if he served Willis well, Wade responded with a similarly bland, “I did. I did my job.” Cockburn wonders whether he left this much open to the imagination in all those cabins he booked — a topic Wade also avoided answering in the interview. 

Were Willis ever ready to run off on vacation with Wade, Cockburn can’t imagine she wants anything to do with him now. Although the Fulton County DA hasn’t gone on the record about Wade’s interview circuit, many of her allies have spoken out. “I think it is an unnecessary distraction and disrespectful to both the process and the DA for Mr. Wade to be giving interviews at this time,” Shirley Franklin, the former Atlanta mayor, said. Willis better get a muzzle on her former fling soon — sources tell Cockburn he’s set to appear on Hot Ones next week.
