The Trump-DeSantis Twitter wars are raging on — and now some real celebrity is involved.
Caitlyn Jenner, the transgender woman formerly known as Bruce, previously said in 2021 that she would support Donald Trump if he ran for president in 2024. The Olympic champion in the decathlon also said in an interview in April that the country needs an “alpha male” like Trump in the White House.
The DeSantis camp drew the ire of Jenner and other LGBTQ+ Republicans with a new ad attacking Trump for various statements he made in support of Pride month and trans people using the bathrooms of their chosen gender. Team DeSantis is trying to make the case that the Florida governor has fought harder than his rivals to protect children from radical gender ideology and women from biological men encroaching on their sports teams and private spaces, but gay friends of Cockburn’s said they felt the ad went too far. The ad spliced Trump’s comments with random clips of very masculine men and images of news headlines essentially calling DeSantis anti-trans.
Jenner criticized DeSantis as “desperate” and said the Florida governor’s “surrogates [are] dropping like flies.”
A few days later, John Cardillo, a former New York police officer and Newsmax host who now lives in Florida, jumped in to defend DeSantis’s rhetoric.
“Trump is as pro-trans as Biden. He allowed trans contestants into Miss Universe, opposed NC’s bathroom bill, and has Bruce Jenner in lipstick as a media surrogate. Now his cultists can attack, insult, and throw tantrums, but that doesn’t change the fact that this is true,” Cardillo said.
Jenner hit back with an unfortunately angled photo of Cardillo, writing, “My goodness… emotional much — too much estrogen? Are you transitioning? You have bigger breasts than me!”
